In
the latest round of Zimbabwe Cricket's National Premier League matches, the Great Zimbabwe Patriots faced Amakhosi and
lost by 6 wickets. The Patriots batted first and managed to score 183-7 in their
allotted 45 overs. All-rounders William Mashinge and Andre Odendaal top-scored
for the Patriots with 47 and 42 runs respectively. Veteran off-spinner Nyumbu finished
with 3-36 for Amakhosi. In response Amakhosi made light work of the revised
target of 154 (D/L Method) chasing it down in 27 overs. Allan Chingoma top scored with an
unbeaten 63 and was named man of the match.
At Kwekwe Sports Club, Queens faced Takashinga. Takashinga bowled first and bundled
out the Queens for 129 runs in 42 overs. Mutsamba was the star of the show with
a 5 wicket haul finishing with figures of 5-41. He was supported by spinners
Roy Kaia and Tapiwa Mufudza who got two wickets apiece. In reply, Takashinga
chased down the score with 5 wickets in hand. Joylord Gumbie and Roy Kaia were the
top scorers with the latter finishing with 42 not out.
The
Easterns made it two wins in two with a comprehensive 8 wicket victory over the
Harare Kings. The Harare Kings were bowled out for 156 after 30 overs. With
Patel top-scoring with 41. Muchawaya was the pick of the bowlers for the
Easterns finishing with figures of 4-18.The score was chased down in 30.3 overs
with Kevin Kasuza and Tinashe finishing unbeaten with scores of 47 and 34
respectively.
After
round 3, Amakhosi are top of the standings with 22 points with Takashinga
Patriots second on 20 points. Midwest top order batsmen Tarisai Musakanda (190 runs) and
Takudzwa Kaitano (142 runs) are currently the leading scorers with Queens Cricket Club
bowling pair of Tanatswa Bechani (10 wickets) and Sean Williams (6 wickets)
leading the way in the bowling department.
