Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League round-up (21/22
Matchday 11): Ngezi 0-0 Dynamos, Whawha 3-0 Chicken Inn, Highlanders 2-2
Cranborne Bullets, Black Rhinos 2-1 ZPC Kariba
Whahwa
stunned Chicken Inn to just about keep themselves in the survival fight, while
there were wins for FC Platinum, Black Rhinos, and Herentals across the Zimbabwe Castle
Lager PSL Matchday 11.
Whawha
3-0 Chicken Inn
A
convincing Whawha performance, thumping Joey Antipas' Gamecocks helped
reinvigorate Whawha's survival hopes, who are now 2 points away form relegation
safety after a poor start to the season.
Whawha
were 6 points safety before kick-off, but an early strike meant Chicken Inn
spent be the remainder of the game chasing the score instead of playing their
usual football.
It's
still only 11 games and Whawha remain in a perilous position, but at least has
kept 14th-placed within touching distance and dealt a minor blow to the
visitors’ own chances of being top of the league.
Caps
United 1-0 Yadah
Bamusi's
39th minute strike was enough to sink the already struggling Yadah with
lingering relegation fears increasing combined with a string of poor
performances. Yadah could not capitalize on the 74th-minute Machazane red card
for Caps United.
The
solitary goal places The Green Machine 5 points clear of the Premier Soccer
League drop zone with a game to spare. For Yadah it was another dent in their
fading hopes of surviving relegation.
Bulawayo
Chiefs and ZPC Kariba Continue to Struggle As Dynamos Picks Up Form
Bulawayo
Chiefs failed to win yet again away to the free scoring Manica Diamonds who
uncharacteristically could not find the back of the net. ZPC Kariba succumbed
to a 2-1 loss to army side Black Rhinos though they are were ahead in the 8th
minute through a Demera penalty.
The
Glamour Boys, Dynamos took pole position even if they were held to a 0-0
stalemate with Ngezi. Ahead on goal difference, Chazunguza is in title winning
form. Boasting 7 clean sheets, conceded just 4 goals and unbeaten in the last
5 games-4 wins and a draw. Second
placed, Chicken Inn have 2 wins- 2 draws and a loss suggesting either loss of
form or inconsistency. Whatever the case,
advantage Dynamos.
Accolades
The
Zimbabwe Castle Lager Premier Soccer League announced the Player and Coach
of the Month awards for February and March.
Chicken Inn FC head coach "Mafero", Joey Antipas got the gong for both months after his side’s scintillating start to the season.
Brian Muza from Chicken Inn was the Player of the Month for February and William Manondo, CAPS United's seemingly reliable forward, was named the Castle Lager PSL Player of the Month for March having posted 6 Goals plus 2 Assists in 4 games.
Log Standings as at Matchday 11
Dynamos FC and Chicken Inn FC take the lead; Triangle United and the 'Gem Boys', Manica Diamonds, maintain their commendable run.
The Platinum sides closely follow; both FC Platinum and 'Madamburo', Ngezi Platinum Stars, hoping to change their fortunes in the coming fixtures. The Green Machine CAPS United FC still have some statements of intent to assert; their positive takeaway is maintaining a laudable goal-scoring form.
Herentals and Black Rhinos are obviously reveling in their tenacity that puts them above giants Highlanders FC - with Bosso struggling to stamp consistent wins. Bosso’s triumph over Dembare in the Uhuru Cup on 18 April may however be a significant confidence and morale booster.
Tenax City and Harare City FC have a narrow lead over Bulawayo Chiefs, Cranborne Bullets, and ZPC Kariba, understandably the priority for these teams is staying above the relegation zone - a fierce contest for top-flight survival.
Anchoring the Castle Lager Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League log standings - uncertainty and mounting pressure hovering over their heads - are Yadah, Whawha, and Bulawayo City.
