The full fixtures schedule for the next ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023, which Zimbabwe is hosting from June 18 to July 9, has been released by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
In Group A, the West Indies will compete against tournament hosts Zimbabwe, the Netherlands, Nepal, and the USA. And arguably the biggest face-off in this Cricket World Cup Qualifier is Zimbabwe v West Indies.
In Group B, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Scotland, Oman, and the UAE will be vying for the Cricket World Cup berth.
As such, ten (10) teams will compete in the competition, divided into two groups of five, with the top two teams moving on to the Super Six stage.
Only two teams will qualify for the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India. And this will be the 13th edition of the Cricket World Cup.
Given that the Netherlands and Zimbabwe in Group A are accustomed foes, the West Indies will have to perform at their peak if they are to advance.
With Ireland and Scotland (Group B) – two teams with a solid and impressive one-day cricket history – Sri Lanka also faces an uphill battle.
All three nations—Oman, Nepal, and the USA—will be vying for their first-ever Cricket World Cup spots. The tournament, which features two previous Cricket World Cup champions among the competitors and numerous growing cricketing teams battling for qualifying, the Qualifier will be tightly contested, according to ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice.
Allardice also lauded the tournament's international diversity, which includes teams from Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Africa.
In the Qualifier's group stage, each team will compete in four games, with the top three teams from each group moving on to the Super Six stage. With the exception of the points earned against the lowest two teams in each group, all points earned during the group stage will carry over to the Super Six round.
The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup qualifying final will be held on July 9 in Harare, and the top two teams from the Super Six stage will advance.
Fans excitedly and anxiously anticipate the entertaining action as they eagerly wait to see which teams will join the eight that have already secured their spots in the championship; which presents a critical opportunity for teams to qualify for one-day cricket's premier event.
With a dynamic mix of experienced sides and emerging talent, the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup qualifiers are set to be a showcase of the global game.
