The victory came off a fantastic cricketing display led by the veteran Craig Ervine who scored a career best 195 off
149 comprising of 22 fours and six
maximums in a scintillating batting exhibition that wowed the early morning
crowd at Harare Sports Club.
This was Ervine's second 150+ score in the
series, coming in as number three batsman following the early dismissal of opener Joylord Gumbie
for a two-ball duck.
Ervine combined with opener, Innocent Kaia who
was unfortunate to miss out on his own hundred as he was caught at short mid
wicket, eight runs short of his hundred.
Kaia was in an aggressive mood too with his 92
coming from 79 balls (10 fours and 3 sixes).
Quick knocks from Sean Williams (20 off 18) and
Ryan Burl (31 off 18) propelled Zimbabwe
Select to a mammoth 385-7 from their allotted fifty overs.
The Zimbabwe bowlers started quickly courtesy of
the seam bowling pair of Tanaka Chivanga and Blessing Muzarabani; taking three
wickets between them.
However the Shaheens courageously fought back, starting with Rohail Nazir (87 off 91) and Kamran Ghulam (56 off 47).
But the best as far as the Shaheens were concerned
came from Mubasir Khan who scored a rollicking 115 from just 77 balls with six fours and eight maximums.
Zimbabwe chipped away with wickets amongst all
this hard-hitting batting from the
Shaheens before they managed to bowl them out for 353.
With Mubasir Khan being the last wicket to fall in the
fifth over off the bowling of Luke Jongwe; the Chevrons secured an impressive 32-run
victory.
The key take-away is how glorious the batting was in this series: the 6th and final one-day match resulted in both Zimbabwe Select and the Shaheens posting a total of 738 runs from their respective innings.
The Chevrons now turn their attention to the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier, which starts on the 18th of June, as they look forward to playing exquisitely brilliant and entertaining cricket; in earnest efforts to book a place for the Cricket World Cup in India later this year.
