The Joburg
Buffaloes put themselves back in contention for a play-off spot following an
impressive nine wicket win over table toppers Cape Town Samp Army. Bowling first,
the Buffaloes’ bowling was top notch.
Blessing
Muzarabani, who was Player of the match finished with figure of 3-7 from his
two overs.
He took the big
wicket of Tadiwanashe Marumani who went out scoreless, before accounting for
Matthew Breetzke and Karim Janat.
He was heavily
supported by fellow Chevron pacer Victor Nyauchi who was awarded magic moment
of the match as he got two wickets in succession when he had Rahmanullah Gurbaz
who was looking in fine touch for his 27 off 12 balls, caught out by Noor
Ahmad. He followed up with the wicket of Bhanuka Rajapakasa who edged one to
the wicketkeeper Mushifiqur Rahim. Gurbaz’s 27
was the highest score for the Samp Army as they hobbled to 89 from their
ten overs.
The Buffaloes made
light work of the chase, reaching the total in 6.5 overs. Mohammed Hafeez was instrumental
with a quick-fire 40 off 23 balls. In support was Ravi Bopara who was striking
at fierce rate of 272.7 as he raced to 30 off just 11 balls.
The Buffaloes win
was the biggest thus far in the Zim Afro T10 tournament and they now sit on the
coveted fourth spot as they have superior net run rate, leaving the Bulawayo
Braves anchoring the log table.
The Cape Town Samp
Army’s destiny is now out of their hands and have to rely on results of the
remaining matches to confirm qualification. Earlier the Harare Hurricanes’
impressive 24 run over the Qalandars. The Hurricanes set the tournament joint
highest score of 134 which proved to be more than enough for the
Qalandars.
In the first match
of the day denied the Camp Town Army to seal a spot in the play-off as they
edged them with a three run victory.
