Tavengwa Mukuhlani has been retained unopposed as the chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) for a third four-year term. His position was confirmed at an Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Holiday Inn in Bulawayo on Saturday.
The seven provinces of ZC’s associations elected seven members of the national Board, including Mr Mukuhlani, Mr Matshaka, Ms Maureen Kuchocha, Mr Lloyd Mhishi, and Mr Blessing Ngondo.
Mukuhlani’s administration has been widely praised for hosting successful qualifier tournaments in Zimbabwe and for restoring aspects of the game that had deteriorated, such as player welfare, women’s cricket, and player development.
“Good financial stewardship has made this re-election possible. We worked hard to make sure that we rescued the game and we managed the resources well, which also got us the backing of the International Cricket Council,” he said.
Mukuhlani highlighted the positive impact that cricket can have on the development of the country and its athletes, using the example of player Sikandar Raza.
He also emphasized the need for unity and a focus on delivering a quality product to fans in order to drive the economic success of Zimbabwe Cricket.
He underscored the importance of prioritizing player welfare and creating an environment where players are proud to represent Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe Cricket also revealed plans to upgrade Harare Sports Club and Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo to accommodate more spectators.
These developments are a testament to the progress made under Mukuhlani’s leadership and his commitment to improving the state of cricket in Zimbabwe.
