Why Brandon Mavuta was fined and banned for the rest of NPL 2023 season

All-rounder Brandon Mavuta was hit with a fine and banned for the rest of the National Premier League (NPL) 2023 season after he verbally abused and threatened an umpire during a match between Kadoma Cricket Club and Amakhosi.

Kadoma Cricket Club had forfeited the match after Mavuta who had been timed out refused to leave the crease.

As revealed exclusively by 3-mob.com, Mavuta hurled insults to the umpire as well as threatening to hold the game to ransom saying, “I fucken drove all the way, plus this is club cricket I cannot be fucking timed out at Club cricket. Bullshit, fuck you, you know better.” There is no game to be played today”

To umpire Banda, he said, “don’t come to me, talk to me where you are standing’

Mavuta was charged on three counts under Articles 2.1-22 of the code of conduct.

1. Threatening match officials. A level 1 offence under article 2.3

2. Bringing the game into disrepute. A level 2 offence under article 2.17

3. Use of obscenities towards match officials. A level 2 offense under level 2.22

The penalties for these were as follows;

1. For Count One – USD 100 fine and one match ban

2. For Count Two – USD 200 and banned for the rest of the competition

3. For Count Three – USD 100 and one match ban.

Mavuta is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm leg break bowler who also contributes as an all-rounder. He was born on 4 March 1997 in Kadoma, Zimbabwe.

Mavuta made his international debut for Zimbabwe in July 2018, after being part of the squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

He has played four Tests, nine ODIs and nine T20Is for his country, taking 12, 7 and 3 wickets respectively.
