TAKUDZWA HILLARY CHIWANZA
HARARE — This is probably one of the most unexpected collaborations in Zimbabwe’s music space at the moment. Rapper Bling4 and chanter Silent Killer have a new song and video titled Zvichitibhohwa, and it is an assortment of sounds whose major thrust is premised on an expansion of the respective artists’ listenership.
This latest offering is a much-needed conflation of ZimHipHop and ZimDancehall in their full glory. And, in a way, it exudes some respite and redemption for Silent Killer.

The song is an attempt by both artists to test the waters of the experimental, and we know Silent Killer is not new to such proclivities. It is an offering intended to convey a hard street message with specific target audiences in mind.
Bling4 hardly deviates from his conventional style in terms of lyrical arrangement and measure, while evidently seizing the opportunity to have Silent Killer (who has been making waves of late) on his work.
Silent Killer does well in embracing such an opportunity with both hands, ensuring he infuses his unorthodox flows into the topography of mainstream sounds. His way may sound a tad off-the-mark for some, but clearly for his loyal audience his verse is by all accounts remarkable.
Nag Beatz strikes a tenuous compromise with his beats; on an instrumental that has to both accommodate Bling4 and Silent Killer.
With the video, Pikicha Yedu sends a statement that we need more of the marriage between ZimHipHop and ZimDancehall is very much needed—that the two genres, which dominate the soundscapes of Zimbabwe’s music scene to a large degree—are inextricable and both carry the same validity regarding street cred.
On the overall, the latest single Zvichitibhohwa is a fair attempt deserving laudable comments. It shows there is room for what can be achieved through cross-genre collaborations.
