HARARE – Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has availed its 15-man squad for the upcoming three-match T20 international series against Ireland, commencing in Harare on Thursday. Notably, the uncapped pair of middle-order batter Brian Bennett and pace bowler Trevor Gwandu have been included in the squad.
Zimbabwe seek to bounce back from their disastrous show in Namibia as they host Ireland in December 2023 starting with a T20I series and later ODI series |
These selections mark two of the four changes introduced to the side subsequent to their failure to secure spots at the the recently concluded T20 World Cup regional qualifier tournament in Namibia.
In addition to the inclusion of Bennett and Gwandu, leg-spinner Brandon Mavuta and batter Tony Munyonga have earned recalls to the squad.
Meanwhile, the selectors have opted to drop pace bowler Tendai Chatara, left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza, and opening batters Innocent Kaia and Nick Welch.
The return of veteran batter Craig Ervine, who had been sidelined due to a groin muscle strain after participating in the first of Zimbabwe’s six matches at the qualifier tournament, adds further experience to the squad.
Captain Sikandar Raza will lead the side, hoping to reclaim glory following ignominy in Namibia.
The three T20I matches are scheduled to take place between Zimbabwe and Ireland on the 7th, 9th, and 10th of December, 2022, at Harare Sports Club.
Subsequently, the two teams will also compete in one-day international (ODI) fixtures on the 13th, 15th, and 17th of December at the same venue.
