MULTICHOICE has announced that SuperSport will broadcast all 52 matches of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Ivory Coast 2023 (AFCON 2023) live. The tournament, which is the continent's showpiece event, is set to kick off on 13 January 2024 and will run until 11 February 2024.
This announcement comes after MultiChoice had initially stated on 3 January 2024 that it would not be airing AFCON 2023 matches.
The reason given was a failure to secure broadcast rights, which were awarded to Togolese broadcaster New World TV by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
However, MultiChoice has now reached a commercially viable agreement with the rightsholders, New World TV (NWTV), to broadcast the 34th edition of Africa's premier men's football competition taking place in Ivory Coast.
SuperSport CEO, Rendani Ramovha, expressed his delight at the development, stating, "We are delighted to be able to showcase the best of African football live to our viewers."
As part of this agreement, Nimonka Kolani, Managing Director of NWTV, declared, "By securing the rights to CAN 2023 under the leadership of Dr Patrice Motsepe, SuperSport and NWTV prove that nothing is more important than the happiness of Africans who wish to follow the exploits of their favourite team during the biggest football competition in Africa."
SuperSport has reiterated its commitment to "bring its unrivalled coverage" to all the games, with matches available on DStv as well as GOtv across Africa.
