HWANGE – A 58-year-old private doctor from Binga Centre, Matabeleland North Province, stands accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old patient. The alleged incident occurred while the minor's aunt was waiting outside the consultation room.
The accused, Dr. Jabulani Dube, who operates a surgery at Binga Medical Centre, appeared in court last Wednesday.
He faces charges of sexually abusing a minor who had visited his surgery for a medical review, accompanied by her aunt.
According to the prosecution, the minor had initially scheduled a review appointment for 9 AM on February 7, 2024. However, Dr. Dube rescheduled the appointment to 8:30 PM.
Dr. Dube allegedly asked the minor's aunt to wait outside during the consultation.
Behind the closed door, he instructed the minor to undress under the pretext of a medical examination.
The court record reads, "The doctor asked the minor to remove her skin tight and her panties and she complied as she thought that it was part of the examination.
The minor was also asked to open her legs whilst she was waiting to be checked the doctor unzipped his trousers and molested her."
The minor reportedly screamed when she felt discomfort, prompting her aunt to check on her. The aunt found Dr. Dube attempting to block the minor, who managed to escape and run away.
The aunt searched for the minor and found her at home, where she narrated the horrifying incident. This led to Dr. Dube's arrest.
Dr. Dube is scheduled to appear again at the Hwange Magistrate court on February 22. He remains in custody pending further proceedings.
