HARARE – Durham clinched victory by 136 runs in a commanding performance against Zimbabwe A at Takashinga Cricket Club on Thursday. The spirited innings of 37 runs by Nkosana Mpofu was the lone highlight in Zimbabwe A's second innings as they succumbed to Durham's dominance.
Chasing a target of 270 runs, Zimbabwe A started their second innings on a shaky note, managing only 10 runs on Thursday evening with the early dismissal of Tanu Makoni. The batting lineup struggled, with Hamid Ali falling for 17, and Brian Bennett and Johnathan Campbell departing for four and 10 runs respectively.
A quick succession of wickets resulted in Mpofu and Campbell's dismissals, leaving the team at 83 for five with dwindling hopes. Mpofu's resilient 37 off 100 balls, featuring five fours, before being run out, offered a glimmer of resistance.
Milton Shumba (21 not out) and Tadiwanashe Marumani (21) contributed useful runs, but the lower order faltered swiftly. A collapse saw three wickets tumble in seven deliveries, including the unexpected ducks of first-innings top scorers Ainsley Ndlovu and Victor Nyauchi.
Zimbabwe A were bowled out at 133, with paceman Oliver Gibson and left-arm spinner Callum Parkinson wreaking havoc with four wickets each, conceding 39 and 27 runs respectively.
Durham's dominant performance sets the tone as they prepare to participate as guests in Zimbabwe's upcoming T20 tournament commencing on Sunday.
