KWEKWE – A 26-year-old man, Polite Ncube, was fined USD$200 or given the alternative of a four-month jail term after being found in possession of two live black cobras, a contravention of the Parks and Wildlife Act.
Ncube was intercepted by police officers on patrol in the Central Business District of Kwekwe around 0300 hours.
Upon searching Ncube's satchel, the officers discovered the two snakes.
In court, Ncube claimed that the snakes, initially given to him as short roots by his grandfather, had grown into the cobras found in his possession.
He stated that he uses the snakes for healing purposes.
Despite the forfeiture of the snakes to the State, Ncube expressed confidence that he would be reunited with them upon returning to his homestead in Gokwe.
