Tanzid Hasan stars as Bangladesh thrash Zimbabwe in T20I opener

ASHLEY DUBE

BANGLADESHI bowlers set up a comfortable eight-wicket victory in the first T20I match against Zimbabwe by dismissing the visitors for 124 in Chattogram. Rain interrupted the chase twice, but debutant Tanzid Hasan remained unbeaten, steering his team to victory in just 15.2 overs with 67 off 47 balls.

Tanzid got into Bangladesh's T20I side on the back of a strong BPL season and struck two sixes and eight fours in his innings. He capitalised on the poor fielding by the Chevrons as he was dropped twice in the chase.

Zimbabwe was bowled out for 124, largely due to an incredible and heroic half-century stand for the eighth wicket between Wellington Masakadza and Clive Madande.

The pair rescued the Chevrons from a dangerous position as they were 41-7 after 7.4 overs. Four experienced batsmen got out without scoring, with poor decision-making leading to most of the wickets.

Craig Ervine was clean-bowled while trying to block off-spinner Mahedi Hasan; Sikandar Raza gloved one to first slip; Ryan Burl was caught at point after skying a shot; and Williams struggled against Taskin Ahmed's pace. Additionally, a needless run-out resulted in Brian Bennett's dismissal, who looked promising during his brief time at the crease.

Madande, who top-scored with 43 off 38 balls, was bowled by a yorker from Taskin Ahmed, while Wellington Masakadza, who contributed 34 off 38 balls, was run out on the last delivery of the innings.

Mohammed Saifuddin on his return to international cricket was excellent for Bangladesh finishing with figures of 3-14, while Taskin Ahmed also chipped in with 3 as well.
