GWERU – A 51-year-old Chinese national appeared in Gweru Magistrates' Court on rape charges involving a 17-year-old coworker at a local mine, according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
The State alleges that the incident occurred on November 15, 2022, when the accused, who worked at the same mine, raped the complainant in his office.
The complainant, employed as a general worker, was dismissed from her job immediately following the alleged assault.
The case came to light when the complainant, who became pregnant as a result of the assault, informed her mother. She gave birth to a baby girl the following year.
A police report was subsequently filed on June 13, 2024, leading to the arrest of the accused.
The court has remanded the case to June 28, 2024.
