Zimbabwe PSL Matchday 16: Crowd trouble mars CAPS United's victory; FC Platinum retain top spot; Highlanders break winless streak

HARARE – Matchday 16 of the Zimbabwe Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) saw a series of tightly contested fixtures, with all games concluding in either narrow one-goal victories or draws.

The low-scoring results highlighted a blend of strong defensive showings and potential deficiencies in attacking prowess across the league.

Crowd trouble overshadows CAPS United's victory

The match between CAPS United and Chegutu Pirates at Rufaro Stadium was disrupted by crowd trouble, overshadowing the Harare giants' return to winning ways. 

The game was halted for over 20 minutes after Chegutu Pirates fans began throwing missiles following William Manondo’s opening goal in the 67th minute. 

Despite the chaos, Manondo's brace ensured a 2-1 victory for CAPS United.

FC Platinum extend lead at the top

FC Platinum solidified their position at the summit of the Castle Lager Premiership table with a late 1-0 win over Simba Bhora. 

Thando Ngwenya's 88th-minute strike secured the victory, pushing the Platinum Boys to 34 points, four points clear of second-placed Manica Diamonds. 

FC Platinum remain unbeaten in their last five matches.

Highlanders break winless streak

Highlanders ended their winless streak with a 1-0 victory against Hwange at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo. 

Marvin Sibanda’s goal in the 48th minute was enough to clinch the three points for Bosso, who now sit on 26 points.

Elsewhere in the Premiership

Other matches included a goalless draw between Manica Diamonds and Dynamos. 

Green Fuel narrowly defeated Yadah 1-0, while Bikita Minerals came from behind to overcome Chicken Inn 2-1. 

Ngezi Platinum Stars secured a 2-1 victory over Herentals College, and TelOne edged out Arenel with the same scoreline. 

ZPC Kariba and Bulawayo Chiefs played out a 0-0 draw.
