HARARE – Consultus Publishing Services (CPS), in partnership with LitFest Harare, is set to launch the Language Legacy Expo on Saturday, July 27 at the CPS Head Office in Eastlea, Harare. This event marks the beginning of a 10-week expo dedicated to honoring culture and heritage through literary and visual arts.

The expo aims to engage a diverse audience, including writers, parents, children, educational institutions, cultural organizations, and artists. It will serve as a platform to promote reading culture, support writers, and foster community connections around literature and the arts.

The Language Legacy Expo will run from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday from July 27 through September 28, 2024.

Activities will include literary workshops, book discussions, book swapping, controlled reading workshops for teachers and parents, live performances, and a writing competition for students.

Additionally, there will be stalls for creatives and producers to exhibit materials such as books, visual artworks, and crafts.

Masimba Madondo, General Manager of CPS, expressed his excitement about the upcoming expo launch.

He stated, “The Language Legacy Expo anchors the broader CPS Language Legacy Campaign aimed at promoting language learning in general and indigenous languages in particular while promoting culture and heritage through literary and visual arts.

“In line with the new Heritage-based curriculum, we endeavor to play our role in advocating for effective language learning, as well as the preservation and promotion of indigenous languages.”

Madondo added, “The expo will feature exhibitions, discussions, and performances that celebrate our linguistic and cultural diversity as Zimbabweans, as well as shine a spotlight on our cultural products and heritage.”

He stated, “We are very excited to partner with CPS in promoting language literacy and cultural heritage preservation through the Language Legacy Expo.

“This is a necessary platform in supporting the legacy of our indigenous languages and culture for this and generations to come.”

The expo will be free to attend for the public, with the exception of the grand finale on September 28. Exhibition stalls are available for a nominal fee.
