NEW MUSIC: Voltz JT drops militant release ‘Ma War Vets’ – As N.O.P Makoni album is on the way

ONE of the foremost voices in the Zim Hip Hop space, Voltz JT, has released a new song and video titled Ma War Vets; with the artist standing out by noting his refusal to conform to certain trends – refusing to be entrapped in the zeitgeist mostly gripping urban youths.

A prelude to the N.O.P Makoni album, the new release sees Voltz remaining true to his style while attempting to add new layers of sublime perfection to his art. And this is what makes it a worthwhile exercise to patiently wait for this upcoming album. 

Ma War Vets takes Voltz JT on a belligerent journey, in which he registers his nonchalance towards conformity – this being an admirable trait in itself. It is such a bellicose tune, with the artist declaring war on misleading trends. 

He comes off as overtly recalcitrant over a thumping bassline and swirling hats as he asserts his authoritative stance in the game, as well as taking the moral high ground. The hard instrumental gives the song a gritty, authentic feel—the ultimate weapon for any rapper. 

Hence he tells us he is not at all concerned about what most are constantly fretting over – presenting himself as the most viable alternative in the highly competitive music industry. 

He asserts such authority drawing on the symbolism of war veterans – the latter a common phrase in the Zimbabwean lexicon as it refers to comrades who fought in the bitter armed struggle for independence. 

The video, a marvellous creation of Blu Mordecai, perfectly complements Voltz JT's message. The video tells us, in order to achieve what Voltz JT calls the Zimbabwean dream, one should be ready for war. 

This release is something you can keep coming back to, all the while eagerly waiting for the album he promised. 

Such is the power of Voltz JT, as he draws from his repertoire of excellent rapping skills to deliver relatable messages. 

And he is unapologetic about his irascible attitude towards the game. Because he professes to have been raised by war veterans. Just press play.
