ZIMSPHERE
PARIS, France — The 2024 Paris Olympics was off to a rapturous start on Friday night, with a glittering opening ceremony that went beyond a usual stadium spectacle; and was done around the French capital.
However, some sporting events like soccer and rugby had already had begun on Wednesday and Thursday, due to the length of the schedule.
Zimbabwe is being represented by a seven-member contingent across three disciplines — athletics, rowing, swimming.
If you want to cheer on your own during the Paris Olympics, here is the full schedule:
27 July
- 9:00 AM: Men's Single Sculls - Steve Cox
Update: Stephen Cox missed the qualifying time and came 4th in his heat. He still has a repechage tomorrow at 9:30 AM. A repechage is a term from rowing and wrestling that allows athletes who have been knocked out in the early rounds a second chance at qualifying for matches later on.
It has also been introduced to some running events. This means that each of the included events will have four rounds: a first round, a repechage round, semi-finals, and the final, whereas previously they had contained only three.
30 July
- 11:00 AM: Women's 100m Freestyle - Paige van der Westhuizen
31 July
- 11:00 AM: Men's 200m Backstroke - Denilson Cyprianos
5 August
- 7:55 PM: Men's 200m Heats - Makanaka Charamba, Tapiwa Makarawa
10 August
- 8:00 AM: Men's Marathon - Isaac Mpofu
11 August
- 8:00 AM: Women's Marathon - Rutendo Nyahora
