CHINHOYI - Lovemore Nyashamba, 37, of Dzivarasekwa, Harare, and Miri Mili, 41, of Karoi, have been charged with theft and malicious damage to property after they allegedly faked a robbery.

The charges were brought before the Chinhoyi Magistrates' Court.

According to the State, on June 24, 2024, Nyashamba and Mili allegedly conspired to steal from their employer. They were tasked with collecting lime from Alaska Dolomite Mine in Chinhoyi.

Nyashamba was driving a Shacman truck, while Mili was driving a Freightliner truck.

The court was informed that Nyashamba received $3,200 in cash to pay for the lime.

During their journey to Chinhoyi, the Freightliner truck experienced mechanical issues at Mapinga Great Dyke, Banket. This prompted them to park by the roadside, where they executed their plan.

The accused reportedly smashed the left quarter glass of the Shacman truck's passenger door.

Subsequent police investigations revealed that no robbery had occurred. Instead, the accused had allegedly converted the money for personal use.
