Viral video results in arrest of five women in violent assault case

WEDZA – Five women have been arrested by the Zimbabwe Republic Police following a brutal attack on an 18-year-old woman, Mavis Mada, who was stripped naked and assaulted.

The suspects—Vimbai Mike (19), Rudo Manjere (17), Lilly Rose Munyoro (16), Lillian Chido Munyoro (17), and Sandra Vhumbunu (17)—reportedly lured Mavis to Vimbai Mike’s homestead in Mupfuuri Village, Wedza, under the guise of giving her vegetable seedlings, according to police investigations. 

Once there, they locked her in a hut and subjected her to a violent assault.

The women took turns beating Mada with switches and inserted three sticks into her private parts while recording the incident. 

Mada lost consciousness, and the suspects poured water on her before leaving her naked.

The police apprehended the suspects and recovered a Vivo cellphone used to record the attack. 

Vimbai Mike remains in police custody, while the four minors have been released to their parents pending court proceedings.

Mada is currently receiving medical attention at Mount St Mary’s Hospital. 

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi called on the public to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid resorting to violence.
