JOHANNESBURG – Zimbabwe has been drawn in Group J for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, joining Cameroon, Kenya, and Namibia. The draw, held at the Supersport Studios in Johannesburg, marks the start of the road to Morocco, the host nation for the tournament.

A total of 48 African nations, including preliminary round winners Chad, Eswatini, Liberia, and South Sudan, will compete to secure a spot in Africa's premier football tournament. Teams were seeded into four pots of twelve based on the latest FIFA World Rankings.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the final tournament, except in Group B, where hosts Morocco automatically qualify, allowing only one additional team from that group to advance.

The 35th AFCON edition will be held from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, spanning the Christmas period. Qualifiers are set to begin in September 2024.

For Group B, which has Morocco, the qualification scenarios are as follows:

  • If Morocco finishes first, the second-placed team also qualifies.
  • If Morocco finishes second, the first-placed team qualifies.
  • If Morocco finishes third or fourth, the first-placed team qualifies alongside Morocco.
