Kenya chooses Uganda as neutral venue for 2025 Afcon Qualifiers opener against Zimbabwe

NAIROBI – Kenya's national football team will face Zimbabwe in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers Group J opener at Uganda's Mandela National Stadium.

The match, originally slated for Kenya, will be held on September 4 at 3 p.m. CAT due to the lack of approved stadiums in the host nation.

Kenya's primary venues, Nyayo Stadium and Kasarani Sports Complex, are undergoing renovations for the 2025 African Nations Championship and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, rendering them temporarily unfit for international fixtures.

Zimbabwe, similarly deprived of a CAF-certified venue, will host their subsequent match against Cameroon on neutral ground six days later.

The choice of Uganda remains tentative; contingent upon stadium availability.
