HARARE – Yadah Stars forward Khama Billiat was named the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) Player of the Month for July, following a string of impressive performances that earned him 77% of the vote.
This accolade mirrors a huge success for the 33-year-old striker, marking his first major individual award since returning to Zimbabwe after his contract with Kaizer Chiefs suffered the inevitable fate of not being renewed.
Billiat's resurgence has been pivotal to Yadah Stars' recent five-match unbeaten run, which ended with a 1-0 defeat to Simba Bhora yesterday.
During July, Billiat scored three goals and provided one assist across four matches, making him the standout candidate for the Player of the Month award.
His season tally now stands at nine goals, tying him with CAPS United's William Manondo as the league’s top scorer.
Upon receiving the award, Billiat expressed unbridled elation. "It's always good to enjoy the game and produce results," he told The Herald.
"I am very happy for myself and more importantly for the club. My teammates deserve all the praise for the role they continue to play in my game. We complement each other, and more love to the coach Thomas Ruzive for his guidance."
Billiat added, "I am really grateful to the stakeholders and everyone; I am feeling the love. It is always good to win prizes, but I am here to help my team in every way possible on the field of play. I am enjoying my game, and there is still more room to improve."
In a parallel success, Simba Bhora's Tonderai Ndiraya was named the Castle Lager PSL Coach of the Month. Ndiraya's leadership has propelled his team to the top of the league standings.
Ndiraya earned the award after guiding his team to three victories in July against Manica Diamonds, Hwange, and Highlanders, along with securing a crucial away point against GreenFuel.
Simba Bhora's recent win against Yadah solidified their position at the summit of the league table.
