ZIMSPHERE
THE 23rd edition of the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) is set for early 2025, but the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) is already hitting the groundwork on arguably Zimbabwe's most prestigious arts awards.
In a recent presser hosted in Harare, NACZ Executive Director Mr Napoleon Nyathi gave updates on the developments concerning the awards; chief being changes on some awards, a move that was influenced by a national consultation process around Zimbabwe's 10 provinces. Seven new categories have been announced across the eight art forms, while some awards have been renamed.
Mr Nyathi also told journalists that the 23rd edition of NAMA will be the last edition that will be managed by the Jacaranda Culture and Media Corporation (organisers of the Stanbic Bank Jacaranda Music Festival). A new event manager for the NAMA's is expected to 'breathe some fresh air' into the awards, which have been often accused of being 'out of touch.'
The organisation will henceforth be accepting submissions from interested creatives across the country. Works of art that will be considered are those produced between and 1 December 2023 to 30 November 2024. Submissions close on November 30. Creatives can submit their artwork for NAMA 23rd Edition in person at the National Arts Council offices, or by using the following link: https://forms.gle/vyiB2mrqZKG7B7KN9
