CHITUNGWIZA – A 35-year-old scout trainer from Chief Seke area has been sentenced to 28 years in prison after being convicted of multiple counts of aggravated indecent assault and violations of the Data Protection Act, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) reported.
A 35-year-old scout trainer was sentenced to a total of 28 years by the court in Chitungwiza for aggravated indecent assault and violations of the Data Protection Act. |
The accused, whose name has not been disclosed, was found guilty by the Chitungwiza Regional Magistrate’s Court on seven counts of aggravated indecent assault and six counts of contravening the Data Protection Act.
The victims, boys aged between 10 and 19, were under the scout trainer's care during karate training sessions and camp activities.
The court heard that the offences occurred between January 2022 and January 2024.
The scout trainer exploited his position by instructing the boys to wash themselves thoroughly before exposing them to pornographic material on his laptop.
He would then proceed to indecently assault the boys during these sessions.
The criminal activities came to light after one of the victims confided in his parents about the abuse.
The parents promptly shared the information with others through a WhatsApp group, which led to further disclosures from additional victims.
The court found the evidence provided by the State to be compelling, resulting in a cumulative sentence of 28 years behind bars for the scout trainer.
The sentence is effective immediately.
