BULAWAYO – The first day of the second four-day match between Zimbabwe Emerging and South Africa Emerging at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo, witnessed an improved batting performance from the home side. Ending the day on 307 for 6 after 88 overs, Zimbabwe Emerging showcased gumption against a strong South African attack.

Antum Naqvi was the standout performer, anchoring the innings with a magnificent unbeaten 130. His remarkable skill and composure at the crease provided a backbone for Zimbabwe Emerging, who battled valiantly against a persistent South African bowling attack.

Takudzwanaishe Kaitano (90) and Nicholas Welch (46) provided firm support to Naqvi, laying the foundation for a competitive total. Kaitano and Welch combined for an opening stand of 62; much of it off Welch's blade before he was dismissed for 46 by Andile Mogakane.

Despite Mogakane's double-wicket haul, Naqvi and Kaitano formed a crucial partnership, adding 133 runs for the third wicket.

However, a mini-collapse followed, with Alistair Frost dismissed for a duck and wicketkeeper Ryan Kamwemba for a single run, leaving Zimbabwe Emerging at 198-5.

Ronak Patel, playing a watchful innings, joined Naqvi, and the pair put on another 62-run stand. Patel, after a well-constructed 19 off 61 balls, was caught behind by a brilliant delivery from Andile Simelani.

By that time, Naqvi had reached a well-deserved century, his 103 runs coming off 168 balls.

Heading into day two, Zimbabwe Emerging will be looking to build on their strong start, with Brandon Mavuta, who is currently on six runs, hoping to continue the momentum.
