The victims, 35-year-old Locadia Ndlovhu from Zimbabwe and 45-year-old Maria Makgato from South Africa, were reportedly scavenging for food at a dumpsite on Onvervaght Farm in Sebayeng, outside Polokwane, when they were attacked and met their unfortunate fate.

Ndlovhu’s husband, Mabutho Ncube, who was with them at the time, managed to escape with serious injuries and was able to narrate the grisly details.

The farm owner, 60-year-old Zachariah Olivier, has been arrested along with two of his employees, 19-year-old Adriaan de Wet and 45-year-old Zimbabwean national William Musoro.

The trio faces charges of murder, attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and defeating the ends of justice.

Musoro also faces an additional charge of contravening South Africa’s Immigration Act.

The accused appeared in the Mankweng Magistrates Court, and the case has been postponed to August 30 for a formal bail application.

Limpopo province police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said that the arrests followed a "thorough investigation" by the Provincial Tracking Team and Murder and Robbery Unit, which began when Makgato was reported missing after visiting the farm on August 17.

"The investigation led to the discovery of two decomposed bodies of women in a pig sty on August 20," Ledwaba said.

"Both women sustained gunshot wounds, and a 47-year-old foreign national man, who was with them, was also shot and hospitalised."

Capricorn District Municipality Executive Mayor Mamedupi Teffo expressed strong opposition to granting bail to the accused, condemning the heinous nature of the crime.

"What is disturbing about this incident is that not only did the perpetrators shoot them, but they also fed them to the pigs after they killed them," Teffo said.

"We will be present in court on August 30 to demonstrate our dissatisfaction and to ensure they do not receive bail."
