On August 27, 2024, Phiri granted an interim protection order for an applicant against her former husband, including a warrant of arrest as per procedure, according to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ).
Allegations state that on September 4, Phiri solicited a $3,000 bribe from the applicant's ex-husband, who later became the informant in the case.
Phiri allegedly claimed that members of the President's Office, NPAZ, and the Zimbabwe Republic Police were interested in the case and sought to imprison the ex-husband.
Negotiations reportedly led to a reduced bribe of $2,500, with Phiri instructing the informant to deliver the money to his residence.
However, the informant recorded phone conversations throughout the dealings, providing evidence to the police that ultimately led to Phiri's arrest.
Phiri has been remanded in custody until September 9, 2024.
