NORTON – A Mutuvha man’s short-lived reign of machete terror has been checked after he was sent to prison for an effective three years by Norton resident magistrate Christina Nyandoro on 3 October 2024.

Takunda Amos (24) reigned terror in the Mutuvha area along the Robert Mugabe Highway on 7 February last year, threatening and dispossessing several victims of their valuables.

In the first count, Amos violently robbed Munyaradzi Saidi, while Enock Silvester was the victim on the basis upon which Amos was charged with a second count. The third victim was Oscar Chimanikire.

Although he denied all charges, the State, represented by prosecutor Arthur Bosha, proved its case sufficiently enough to convince magistrate Nyandoro of Amos’s guilt.

As punishment, Nyandoro sentenced Amos to five years in prison, suspending one-and-a-half of those. A further six months were suspended on condition that Amos restitutes Saidi, Silvester and Chimanikire the sums of US$35, US$50 and US$230 respectively by 30 December 2024.

Consequently, Amos will be in jail for a minimum of three years.
