Man assaults and rapes his lover's 80-year-old mother, sentenced to 20 years

RUSAPE – In a shocking case reeking of sheer depravity, a 39-year-old man from Inyati was sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Rusape Magistrates' Court for assaulting and raping his girlfriend's 80-year-old mother, according to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ). 

The crime occurred on June 1, 2024, at approximately 12:15 a.m. The accused forcibly entered the elderly woman's home, searching for his girlfriend, who is the victim's daughter. 

When the complainant was unable to provide information on her daughter's whereabouts, the situation escalated tragically.

In a fit of rage, the man began assaulting the complainant, slapping her multiple times and violently smashing her head against the walls. He then forced her into a degrading act before making her lie face down and raping her. 

The horrifying ordeal was interrupted when the victim's daughter and son, alerted by their mother's screams, rushed to her aid. They found the accused holding a stick, and the victim disclosed the assault and rape.

Following the trial, the court handed down a sentence of 20 years, showing the severity and brutality of the crime.
