CHINHOYI – Loyd Banda, a 38-year-old resident of Mapinga, appeared in the Chinhoyi Magistrates' Court on charges of attempted murder, following a violent altercation with a 24-year-old man over a belt, according to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ).
The State alleges that the incident unfolded on October 24 at Tramore farm site at approximately 8:00 AM, while both the accused and the complainant were washing chrome ore. Banda had demanded that the complainant hand over the belt he was wearing so that he could wear it himself.
However, the complainant refused, explaining that the belt belonged to his brother.
Infuriated by the refusal, Banda reportedly picked up a knife from the ground and proceeded to stab the complainant once on the right side of his stomach.
The stab wound resulted in a deep cut, leaving the complainant seriously injured.
Banda has been remanded in custody until November 1, 2024, awaiting further legal proceedings.
Following the incident, the NPAZ reiterated its call for the public to resolve disputes peacefully and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
