BEITBRIDGE – In a distressing case of domestic violence, a 64-year-old man from Zezani village has been convicted and sentenced for physically assaulting his wife over a delay in breakfast preparation, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) reported.
The Beitbridge Magistrates' Court sentenced the man to 24 months in prison, with 8 months suspended, resulting in an effective 16-month sentence.
The incident occurred on October 5, 2024, when the man returned home from a memorial service around 8:00 AM and asked his 58-year-old wife to make breakfast.
While waiting, he visited Zezani Business Center.
When he returned, he started shouting at his wife, accusing her of intentionally delaying the meal.
The situation escalated as the man violently attacked his wife with a stick, striking her body. He further assaulted her with a stone on the head, causing an open wound and severe swelling.
The NPAZ is urging the public to avoid violence and seek peaceful resolutions or third-party mediation in disputes.
