The Zimbabwe Warriors are preparing for a crucial AFCON qualifier against Namibia on Thursday 10 October 2024, with their plans disrupted by an injury crisis. As the team heads into this vital doubleheader, the pressure is on to secure maximum points and move closer to booking a spot at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

German coach Michael Nees has opted for a largely unchanged squad, but the team will be without two key players: Lyon striker Tino Kadewere and Derby County rising star Tawanda Chirewa, both side-lined by injury. Their absence leaves a significant gap in the attack, which has struggled in recent fixtures.

On a positive note, captain Marvelous Nakamba returns to anchor the midfield, having fully recovered from injury. His leadership and experience will be crucial as the Warriors look to overcome their recent difficulties in front of goal.

Left-back Divine Lunga also returns, adding strength to the defence, while Terrence Dzvukamanja has been called up to boost the attack. Dzvukamanja’s presence could prove vital as Zimbabwe seeks to revive their offensive play.

The goalkeeping options are strengthened by the inclusion of Martin Mapisa, while Brendan Galloway’s return to defence offers Nees more depth to counter Namibia’s attacking threats.

Matches vs Namibia: Critical for AFCON Qualification

These two matches against Namibia are crucial for Zimbabwe’s AFCON qualification hopes. After Kenya’s surprise victory over Namibia, the pressure is on Nees and his squad to deliver.

Six points from these games could place Zimbabwe in a commanding position, with just a draw needed in their final match against Cameroon to all but secure qualification.

However, the Warriors’ most pressing issue is their lack of goals, having failed to score in their previous matches against Kenya and Cameroon. If they cannot solve this problem, their qualification campaign could be in serious danger.

Nees knows that Thursday’s match is a must-win. A loss would make the path to AFCON qualification much more difficult and could put the team's chances in jeopardy.

With key players returning and a strong defensive line-up, Zimbabwe must find their rhythm in attack to secure the results they need.

The stakes couldn’t be higher as the Warriors approach this decisive doubleheader.

Despite the disruption caused by injuries, the return of important players and a focused squad means Zimbabwe will be fighting hard for victory.

With AFCON qualification hanging in the balance, the Warriors must rise to the occasion and deliver when it matters most.
