HARARE – Stand up comedian Ngonie 'Vicaldo' Mukahanana who is well known as Preacherman, staged a successful comedy show at Batanai Gardens in Harare on the 11th of October this year—returning after six months of absence—and has promised his fans more comedy shows going forward.

The show which featured many talented comedians such as Mike, MC Josh, Simba, Mya Banks, and Preacherman himself had a phenomenal feel to it as they made it their determined and steady mission to keep the audience laughing all the way. It was a good moment for the Preacherman to showcase his understanding of comedy as a powerful medium to convey important issues afflicting us as a society; but in doing so, knowing that humour is the best way to this end. His message was simple: that amidst all the simmering undercurrents of countless difficulties in life, laughter is truly the best medicine.

The comedians, through humour, highlighted how bad the economic situation in Zimbabwe is putting its people in dire predicaments. But they did it in such a way that one would forget all their troubles in that instance. For these comedians, their art transcended mere cathartic value—they understood that they had to pour their hearts into their performances.

Mukahanana, who received a warm and lively welcome from fans when entering the stage, delivered a memorable experience; as he is still in the formative stages of marking his name on the scene.

Employing biblical allusions – showing how important Christian religiosity is to his craft – the Preacherman expressed his views on the hardships of money these days, as well as throwing in some comments regarding transgenders in his set.

The Preacherman shared his excitement about how his return to comedy was a success; and, buoyed by this, he promised to deliver more.

"I believe The Return of the PreacherMan: Comedy is in Our DNA lived up to the hype. It's never easy to put across a successful show but with God all things are possible," he said.

"All the guys were on fire from Ace, Simba, Mya, MC Josh, Tino Lebohang, DJ Navie – all the guys were outstanding.

"I appreciate the people that came out and bought the tickets to support our show, it's never easy to sell the tickets but they are people who just love to support us. It's an amazing feeling for real.

"Truth be told, this is just a taste of what's to come. More shows lined up to the close of 2024 and as the PreacherMan, I can't tell you how much I can't wait to have you again for a night of laughter," he said.

His show was a good pointer to the massive potential of the comedy industry in Zimbabwe, whose growth can never be cast in doubt. Comedy has always been – and will always remain – a relevant tool to address an infinite array of socioeconomic and political issues we have to navigate on a daily basis. And the Preacherman understands this task excellently.
