The three boys, one of them a student at St Eric High School in Norton, are brothers staying with their family.

The victim is said to be a daughter of their landlord’s.

When they appeared at the Norton magistrates’ courts recently, they were remanded in custody pending the finalization of investigations.

They will now appear at Harare Magistrates Courts on 10 October 2024.

Several commentators who spoke to The Norton Times over the issue expressed shock and dismay, with some pointing the finger at the prevalence of pornographic material and sex enhancement drugs.

The eldest of the accused brothers is a Form 3 student at St Eric High.

“A few days before he was picked by police, I warned this boy about the direction he was taking, after he showed other students images recorded on his phone purportedly depicting him in sexual acts with a girl”, said a teacher at the school, speaking on condition of anonymity for protocol reasons.

A local soccer coach said the same boy was a promising footballer who was chased away from that coach’s club because of indiscipline.
