RUSAPE – A 70-year-old man from the Chief Nyashanu area in Buhera, Zimbabwe, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Rusape Magistrates' Court for the rape of a 7-year-old girl.
The State proved that the tragic incident occurred on June 26, 2024, when the elderly man, identified as Aaron Njuko, targeted the young girl while she was herding cattle alone in the village.
According to court testimony, Njuko called the girl over and then dragged her to a secluded area, where he proceeded to rape her.
The horrific crime was interrupted when the girl's sister, who had been searching for her, stumbled upon the scene.
A police report was immediately filed, leading to Njuko's arrest and subsequent trial.
The court found Njuko guilty of the offence and handed down a 10-year prison sentence, bringing some measure of justice to the young victim and her family.
