Album Review: REAP3R's 'U R3AP WHAT U SOW' a good piece of faith-centred lyricism

TAWANDA CHARI

Christian hip-hop artist, REAP3R recently returned with his sophomore project, U R3AP WHAT U SOW, a multi-dimensional album that speaks to both spiritual and personal ascension. Known for his introspective and faith-centred lyricism, REAP3R continues to merge biblical teachings with real-life struggles, offering his listeners a deeply relatable and uplifting experience.

The album is grounded in the powerful principle, "You reap what you sow," a metaphor that has resonated throughout Christian scripture. This message forms the core of REAP3R's artistry, as he intertwines his spiritual beliefs with themes of perseverance, resilience, and the inevitability of consequences—both good and bad—based on one's actions.

Thematically, U R3AP WHAT U SOW dives into the idea of sowing seeds of faith, diligence, and integrity to reap rewards in due time. REAP3R reminds his listeners that their actions in the present will shape their future, echoing the timeless wisdom of Galatians 6:7: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

Overall, U R3AP WHAT U SOW is a bold and inspiring project that captures REAP3R’s growth as an artist and a man of faith. The album is also a testimony of hard work, spiritual grounding, and REAP3R’s belief in the power of God’s strength to transform lives.

From the opening track, Ascension, REAP3R sets the tone with a vivid narrative tied to the ascent of Christ on the 40th day after the Resurrection. This song acts as both a tribute to Jesus Christ’s rising and a metaphor for REAP3R’s personal growth, personally, musically and spiritually. It explores his journey of sowing seeds of faith, hard work, and persistence while acknowledging that his "ascension" is a result of divine guidance.

He quotes, in a different song, "I Can Do All Things" ft. Elizabeth Tendai & Jason Gwanzura, a faith-driven anthem anchored in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” emphasizing reliance on God’s strength to overcome life’s hurdles.
