The case of the ‘Dai Zvaibvira’ title in Zimbabwean music – Only if it were possible ...

As I searched for a song by my brother Mystery called Dai Zvaibvira a myriad of tracks with the same title appeared. This title, popular among many artists in Zimbabwe, carries various interpretations, yet it ultimately revolves around two common themes: love and regret.

In Cynthia Mare’s song with the same title track, she expresses a heartfelt yearning for her mother. She laments how she wished she could have spent more time with her before her untimely passing.

Meanwhile, Killer T’s rendition is a poignant love ballad in which the protagonist longs to escape with the woman he adores. He articulates his deep affection for her but feels constrained by circumstances beyond his control. If it were possible ...

The Holy Ten track delivers an emotional tribute filled with regret over the loss of his best friend. He mournfully reflects on not having had the chance to say goodbye, particularly painful given that his friend affectionately known as JD passed away at a young age.

In the Eastern Highlands, there is an artist called Mystery, who sings a love song professing his feelings to a lady. His lyrics are poetic, pleading for an opportunity to demonstrate his love.

TyfaH Guni similarly expresses a desire to reveal his heart to a woman he adores, wishing she could see the depth of his feelings. He constantly thinks about and dreams of her, but sadly, no one can truly perceive what lies within his heart. DAI ZVAIBVIRA.

And oh, there is a young boy named Sam Mudoko Muhombe with the same title; he prays through his song for guidance from the Lord in his life and endeavors.

Another gospel artist, Mathias Mhere, sings a melodic prayer for difficult times to pass without causing harm, despite being surrounded by negativity. He emphasizes that we should all aspire to embody Christ-like qualities. DAI ZVAIBVIRA.

As the year is still starting, let us commit to being kind to one another. Let’s love each other openly and express our feelings to those we care about, so we don't have regrets later.

Time is moving, and life is short; we are all destined to leave this world eventually, and we never know when. Let’s spread love abundantly. So, pick up your phone and call your loved ones to remind them that you love them.

Love each other.
