BULAWAYO – Two officials from the Bulawayo High Court have been brought before the Bulawayo Magistrates Court on allegations of defrauding a complainant of US$1,974. The accused, Ceaser Nkomo (63), a court assessor, and Shingirai Mupunga (29), a research assistant, are said to have orchestrated the fraudulent scheme under the guise of facilitating the complainant’s civil case.

The case in question, originally filed in 2021, had reportedly "mysteriously disappeared" from the court system, prompting the complainant to seek assistance.
Allegedly, Nkomo and Mupunga demanded various sums of money under false pretenses, claiming the payments were for the reinstatement of the case and to be handed over to a presiding judge.
Growing suspicious, the complainant reported the matter to the police, leading to the duo’s arrest. Notably, Mupunga is said to have tendered his resignation upon his arrest.
In response to the case, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has urged the public to refrain from making unofficial payments to court officials to expedite legal proceedings.
The authority emphasised that all payments should be made at designated offices where official receipts are issued.
