HARARE – Delta Beverages Private Limited has launched an investigation into an audacious attempt by unidentified individuals to gain access to its Southerton brewery through a pre-existing stormwater drainage system.

Thieves allegedly tunnel into Delta Beverages Southerton plant in Harare to steal beer

The incident, uncovered by Delta employees on February 17, did not disrupt operations, the company confirmed in a statement released Wednesday.

“We are working closely with the police and responsible authorities to determine the veracity of the report and the possible motive and identity of the perpetrators,”Delta stated.

While it remains unclear whether any products were stolen, sources speculate that the perpetrators may have been targeting beer supplies stored at the facility.

The beverage giant reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding its employees, facilities, and assets, noting that it is conducting a standard incident review while fully cooperating with investigators.

The company also urged anyone with relevant information to report it to the police or Delta directly.

As Zimbabwe’s leading brewer, Delta Beverages—a subsidiary of Delta Corporation—produces more than 15 beer brands, including Castle, Carling Black Label, and Chibuku.

The company also holds a significant stake in Schweppes Zimbabwe and recently expanded its portfolio with the acquisition of UNB South Africa, a traditional beer producer.
