Guruuswa Film Company unveils new cultural drama series ‘Mavambo’

Domboshava-based Guruuswa Film Company has released its latest production, Mavambo, a gripping drama series that promises to entertain audiences with its commendable melding of tradition, suspense, and cultural heritage. The series, created by Abiatha Mugadza, is a good artistic offering designed to keep viewers on the edge of their seats while fostering a deeper appreciation for Zimbabwean traditions and values.

Speaking with ZimSphere, Mugadza described Mavambo as a cultural tour de force. 

"The new drama series Mavambo is a cultural masterpiece which promises to keep people on the edge of their seats with its rich blend of tradition, drama, and suspense," he said. 

"The drama highlights the importance of cultural heritage and traditional values, encouraging audiences to appreciate and respect their own cultural roots. By incorporating elements of Zimbabwean culture and history, Mavambo contributes to the preservation of cultural knowledge and tradition."  

The series, co-written and produced by Brain Kugara and Mugadza, features a stellar cast including Rightime Rwamozora, Israel Chirowodza, Charity Mugadza, Odel Mukuwaza, Abiatha Mugadza, Wayne Rice, Lloyd Kalombola, Tinaye Shinyira, Benhilda M. Galimoto, Meck Mutsvai, and Blessing Mhlamhla.  




Set in the ancestral land of Guruuswa, Mavambo follows the story of Baba Mugoni, whose family is commanded by a mystical voice to abandon their homeland. While his sons obediently comply, the youngest rebels against the unknown forces guiding their journey. 

As the Mugoni family ventures into the unknown, they face treacherous obstacles that test their unity and resolve. The gods of Mugoni unleash fierce battles to protect the family, leaving viewers to ponder: whose voice is leading the way?  

The series explores profound themes of faith, family, and cultural heritage, offering a thrilling narrative that balances tradition with the supernatural. Mugadza shared the script’s essence with ZimSphere, describing it as an epic struggle between tradition and the unknown, where the fate of the Mugoni family hangs in the balance.  




Guruuswa Film Company, known for its previous productions such as You and Me, Ranco, My Last Wish, and Can of Worms, continues to make notable inroads in the Zimbabwean film industry—this time with Mavambo. The series is not only a source of entertainment but also a tool for cultural education and social commentary.
