Jah Prayzah drops ‘Mandionei’ – But not everyone is hearing it the same way

Zimbabwe's music sensation, Jah Prayzah, has once again proved why he is one of the most sought-after musicians in the country. His brand-new release Mandionei has stirred much discourse in the music scene, racking up thousands of views on social media platforms within hours of its release.

Fans are loving the song, praising Jah Prayzah's unique blend of Afrobeat, traditional Zimbabwean rhythms, and modern sound – his natural, effortless prowess. The song's catchy melody and meaningful lyrics have made it an instant hit, and it is not a far-fetched thing to call it a masterpiece.

However, not everyone is perceiving the new release by Jah Prayzah in a uniform manner. Rumours, particularly fanned by the flames of social media talk, are swirling that the song contains lyrics that are perceived as a diss to fellow musician, Winky D. To many observers, it would seem the two musicians have been at odds for some time—and Jah Prayzah's latest track is seen as a thinly veiled attack on Winky D. This follows Winky D's latest Pabho EP in which he conveyed some scathing lyrics towards those he sees as unjustly benefiting from a rigged system. Winky D does not name anyone—that is the job of fans of course. 

While neither Jah Prayzah nor Winky D has publicly commented on the rumours, fans are already taking sides. As always. And as expected. Some are defending Jah Prayzah, saying that the lyrics are being misinterpreted, while others are calling him out for allegedly taking a shot at Winky D.

The drama surrounding Jah Prayzah's latest track has only added to the hype, with many fans eagerly awaiting his response to the rumours—a response that is unlikely to be substantiated. 

The release of Mandionei comes ahead of Jah Prayzah's highly anticipated new album, Ndini Mukudzei, which is set to drop in May 2025. Fans are eagerly awaiting the album, which promises to be another game-changer in the music industry.

With Mandionei, Jah Prayzah has once again proved that he is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. But as the rumours surrounding the song continue to pile, one thing is clear: Jah Prayzah's latest track has sparked a heated debate that is unlikely to die down anytime soon.

Perhaps that is the sort of discourse the industry needs; in order to have an engaging music space. But there is always risk that this soon descends into sheer toxicity.
