Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Matchday 4 Review: Dynamos finally break the duck, as Highlanders and Scottland share spoils

TAWANDA CHARI

The Glamour Boys finally got their first three points of the season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over defending champions Simba Bhora. After opening the campaign with three consecutive draws, Dynamos needed a statement win and they delivered at the National Sports Stadium.

Shadreck Nyahwa struck in the second half to settle the contest, handing Simba Bhora their first loss of the season. The result not only lifted Dynamos to sixth place with six points but also marked the first time Simba Bhora had conceded a goal this season. The reigning champions now find themselves languishing in eleventh place with four points, already trailing in the early title race. Not that it matters much now but it does set you up for the rest of the season.

With the momentum finally swinging their way, Dynamos will be looking to build on this performance and mount a serious challenge as the season progresses.

Ngezi Platinum Stars Stay Top with Slim Victory Over Triangle United

The defending league champions may have stumbled, but last season’s runners-up, Ngezi Platinum Stars, are showing no signs of slowing down. A 39th-minute goal from Claud Mapoka was enough to secure a narrow 1-0 win over Triangle United, keeping Ngezi at the summit.

With ten points from four matches, they remain the team to beat with another disciplined performance. Triangle, on the other hand, are struggling to get going and must turn things around quickly to avoid early-season woes.

Late Drama as Highlanders and Scottland Share Spoils

Highlanders were left frustrated after a dramatic late equaliser denied them maximum points against Scottland. Andrew Mbeba’s stunning free kick in the 80th minute had seemingly set up Bosso for victory, but Mthokozisi Msebe struck deep in injury time to snatch a point for the visitors.

The result sees Scottland climb to fourth place with seven points, continuing their decent start to the campaign. Highlanders, meanwhile, move to eighth place with five points, still searching for consistency in their performances.
