HARARE – The New School Comedy show, an initiative founded by acclaimed comedian King Kandoro, is set to deliver another night of laughter this Friday at Jasen Mpepho Little Theatre in Harare, showcasing a fresh lineup of emerging comedians.

Now in its third installment this year, the monthly event—held every last Friday—continues to provide a vital platform for up-and-coming comics to hone their craft.

This week’s show will feature performances by Josh, Mike, Munya, David, and Tinotenda Lebohakang, with rotating lineups each month to accommodate new talent.

Organizers anticipate a strong turnout, citing growing interest in the initiative.

"We are expecting a bigger turnout because the initiative is getting more traction," said Tinashe Fortune Manyowa in an interview with ZimSphere. "Fans should expect to be wowed by the underground crop of comics."

Launched to nurture Zimbabwe’s next generation of stand-up comedians, The New School Comedy Night addresses a critical gap in the local entertainment scene. However, Manyowa acknowledged challenges in broadening its appeal.

"One of the greatest challenges comes from the fact that our artform is still yet to be understood by certain masses because they don't even know about it, but all in all it has been shaping up well," he explained.

Manyowa, who began his comedy career in late 2018, shared his personal motivation for joining the scene.

"I have always been a funny guy; all I ever wanted was a platform to express my thoughts and interpretations of life," he said.
